FREDERICTON  – The winners of the 2025 Disability Awareness Week Awards were honoured during the Disability Awareness Week legislative lunch in Fredericton on May 27.

The week is observed each year beginning on the last Sunday in May. The main goal is to raise awareness about barriers that prevent people with any type of disability from full and equal participation in their community, and to support the removal of these barriers.

The Premier’s Council on Disabilities presents the awards to individuals and organizations who have made a significant contribution toward improving the lives of people with disabilities.

“The recipients of this year’s Disability Awareness Week Awards exemplify the strength, innovation and dedication that drive our communities toward greater inclusion,” said Christyne Allain, executive director of the council. “Their contributions shine a light on the barriers that still exist, but, more importantly, they show us what is possible when we work together to remove them. Through their leadership and lived experience, they are helping build a province where every citizen, regardless of ability, can participate fully and equally in all aspects of life.”

This year’s winners are:

  • Honourable Andy Scott Award – Alicia Munn
  • Employer Award – Repeat Boutique
  • Provincial Award – Wabanaki Council on Disability

In addition, Janie Ouellette received the Randy Dickinson Scholarship. Dickinson was the founding executive director of the council, and the scholarship was established in recognition of his nearly four decades of work on disability issues. The $2,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a New Brunswick student with a disability studying in a recognized program at a post-secondary educational institution in the province.

This year marked the 38th year of the campaign. This year’s theme was Championing Accessibility, Celebrating Diversity.
