FREDERICTON – The recipients of the fifth annual VIVE Awards were announced by Lyne Chantal Boudreau, the minister responsible for women’s equality. These awards recognize individuals from diverse backgrounds who are advancing gender equality.

“Real progress happens when bold people speak up, speak out and, through their efforts, bring about change,” said Boudreau. “We are proud to celebrate these people who are helping to forge paths to a better future.”

This year’s recipients are:

·         Youth Champion – Prisme, an association at the Université de Moncton, Moncton campus

·         Community Champions – Shadwa Ramadan of Fredericton and Dora Lanteigne of Caraquet

·         Business Champion – Susan Farquharson of Eastern Charlotte (district of Letang)

·         Everyday Champion – Sarah Sherman of Lakeland Ridges (district of Fosterville)

·         Government Champion – Mary Schryer of Quispamsis

·         Indigenous Champion – Gignoo Transition House Inc. of Fredericton

Two schools had the most students nominated for VIVE Awards this year. This resulted in the School of the Year Award being presented to École Mgr-Matthieu-Mazerolle of Edmundston (district of Rivière-Verte) and Caledonia Regional High School of Fundy Albert (district of Hillsborough).

Certificates were also awarded during the ceremony in recognition of the outstanding dedication of five students throughout the province:

·         Venya Nandakumar – Riverview High School

·         Ethan Libby – Riverview Middle School

·         Tatiana Medrano – Saint John High School

·         Melody Ovuakporoyecha – St. Malachy’s Memorial High School

·         Fifi Chen – Fredericton High School

“Gender equality is not just an ideal; it is a daily commitment,” said Boudreau. “These recipients embody this commitment by making the invisible visible, and I am honoured to recognize their leadership and positive influence.”

More information is available online.

Nominations for the 2026 VIVE Awards will open in September.
