Premier Furey and Minister Reid Congratulate Chief and Council of Qalipu First Nation Band

The Honourable Dr. Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Dr. Scott Reid, Minister Responsible for Indigenous Affairs and Reconciliation, congratulate the Chief and Council of the Qalipu First Nation on their election.

Jenny Brake was re-elected as Chief for the 2024-28 term in an election held on October 25. She held the position of interim chief since last December.

Other members declared elected by the Qalipu First Nation include:

  • Charles White, Western Vice-Chief
  • Colleen Paul, Central Vice-Chief
  • Shianne Squires, Exploits Ward Councillor
  • Francis (Frank) Skeard, Glenwood Ward Councillor
  • Lory Benoit-Jesso, Port au Port Ward Councillor

Members elected by acclamation were:

  • Terri Greene, Benoit’s Cove Ward Councillor
  • Ernest Green, Corner Brook Ward Councillor
  • Ivan White (Sr.), Flat Bay Ward Councillor
  • Calvin Francis, Gander Bay Ward Councillor
  • Miranda Osmond, Stephenville Ward Councillor

A byelection to elect a ward councillor for St. George’s will be held at a later date.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador commends all members who put their names forward as candidates for the Qalipu First Nation.
