November 19 2015
A reknowned Newfoundland child psychologist has passed away. Dr. Patricia Marie Canning passed away this week after a brief illness. She was 65.
Canning conducted a review of special education in the province, and was a pioneer in the field of child psychology, practicing in this province, Nova Scotia, the Caribbean and Ontario – where she worked with First Nations communities.
Former Prime Minister Paul Martin applauded Canning for her “groundbreaking work” with Aboriginal students. She was the daughter of long-time former MHA Paddy Canning and the wife of FFAW co-founder, Richard Cashin.
The funeral mass will take place on Saturday at 10:30 from St. Patrick’s Cathedral in St. John’s.
