The aboriginal and francophone cultures came together during the past two weekends to eat together with events in St. George’s and Cape St. George.
According to a prepared release, on June 21 the francophone community of the Port au Port Peninsula accepted an invitation to celebrate Aboriginal Day in St. George’s. There, members who attended learned to drum, had breakfast and assembled personalized medicine bags using sweet grass, sage, cedar and fungus.
As a thank you, the Bay St. George Cultural Circle was presented with a special aboriginal painting created by Port au Port Peninsula artist Kevin Kendall.
This cultural exchange continued this past Saturday at the annual St. Jean Baptiste walk when members of the Bay St. George Cultural Circle and francophones from the Port au Port Peninsula celebrated their cultures by breaking warm bread together at Boutte du Cap Park.
