ST. JOHN’S, N.L. _ A member of the Newfoundland and Labrador legislature says it’s time for the house of assembly to catch up with social media trends.
Steve Kent was criticized earlier this week for tweeting that a cabinet minister was not present during a budget vote.
Under existing rules, such a comment would be considered unparliamentary language if Kent had said so in the house.
However, Speaker of the House Tom Osborne says the Conservative member will not be disciplined for his tweet.
Osborne says a committee will review the legislature’s standing orders to determine if changes need to be made.
