If you filed a claim for abuse at an Indian Residential School, and have not heard about the eligibility of your claim, time is running out to have your claim admitted to the IAP.

In some cases, we need more information before we can admit claims. If you are unsure of the status of your claim, if you represent a claimant who has passed away, or if you are a relative of a claimant and you aren’t sure if their claim has been admitted, please call our IAP Info line at 1-877-635-2648.

In some cases, the Indian Residential Schools Adjudication Secretariat (IRSAS) has lost contact with claimants, or has been unable to locate the administrator or executor of the estate of claimants who passed away.

The files listed below have been reviewed and are not eligible for admission to the IAP unless additional information is provided to IRSAS.

If your file number, or the file number of a deceased claimant that you represent appears below, you have the following options:

  1. Provide more information to help us reconsider your claim prior to the deadline to submit new information. This deadline is firm and any information received after this date will not be considered.
  2. Appeal our decision to the Chief Adjudicator. (The Chief Adjudicator is in charge of the IAP, on behalf of the courts.) An appeal is a request for the Chief Adjudicator to review whether our decision was correct. It is not an opportunity to provide more information about your claim.

If you would like to provide additional information on an IAP claim, or appeal a decision to not admit a claim to the IAP, please contact the Secretariat by calling 1-877-635-2648.

The IAP is winding down. The Indian Residential Schools Adjudication Secretariat (IRSAS) expects to complete hearings for claimants in the IAP by the spring of 2016 and finalize all post-hearing work and decisions by spring 2018.
