On the first day of our November subscription drive, Tim Bousquet published the Halifax Examiner’s tax return here.
As you will notice, that return doesn’t include any expenses for an office. The entire Examiner team works from home. We have team meetings via Zoom and keep in touch using Slack. Sometimes we meet up for coffee to chat about work, stories, or just to check in. But otherwise, we are each on own, with virtual team support, of course, and have flexible work schedules.
This all means that most of the revenue from your subscriptions goes into reporting. You get more stories and we get a more flexible work-life balance to tell those stories.
