Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland’s Craft at Risk program aims to preserve, pass on knowledge

RIGOLET, N.L. — Having grown up in the north, there was always a reliance on sealskin mittens and parkas, says Niki Greeley.

But the knowledge of how to make these items is slowly dying out. Greeley, and others who participated in the Craft at Risk program with the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland, are aiming to change that.

“For me, it’s the importance of maintaining that connection, that cultural connection, that connection to our ancestors and the heritage of the people that came from this land before the rest of us,” said Greeley.
