Students engaged in real industry scenarios at Qalipu event – The Western Star

Ryan Cook enlisted in the Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nation Band’s annual aboriginal business forum in hopes of fostering a connection with his ancestry and the work the organization is doing.

Since officially obtaining his status, the Corner Brook native has developed an interest in the band. Through attendance in Mawio’mi, the two-day event in Corner Brook with a focus on engaging youth in business innovation, he is accomplishing his goal.

“I was here to mostly watch and learn from the presenters,” Cook said.

However, as one of 13 youth involved, the first-year business administration student at St. Francis Xavier University is quickly realizing there is much more for him to take away.
