Stephenville could be ideal place for urban reserve: Mitchell – Western Star

Tom Rose, president of the Bay St. George Chamber of Commerce, likes the idea of Stephenville being considered under the Urban Reserve Concept.

Chief Brendan Mitchell of the Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nation Band talked about the possibility of such a concept during a recent speech to the chamber.

He said urban reserves are already set up in remote parts of Canada where there are not many opportunities for business.

These reserves get permission for a business park (no residential properties inside them) and help them do economic development and business with no taxes paid. Mitchell said businesses that could be attracted to such a park could range from hotels, gas stations, theatres to coffee shops and much more.
