WOODSTOCK, N.B. _ The Mounties in New Brunswick say it’s unclear whether an armed man at the centre of a recent 11-hour standoff with police fired his weapon at officers on the scene.
The RCMP said Monday that there was an exchange of gunfire on Sunday between officers and an intoxicated 35-year-old man from the Woodstock First Nation.
But the RCMP now say that even though several shots were fired by police and the suspect, it is unclear if the suspect shot at the officers.
Police responded to the scene after receiving reports that a man with a loaded rifle had been uttering threats on Eagles Nest Drive on the reserve.
Investigators say the man barricaded himself inside a home and the surrounding area was evacuated.
A negotiator was brought in and police say the man surrendered Monday shortly after 2 a.m.
The man was taken to hospital where he was treated for non life-threatening injuries.
