Provincial Government Recognizes Mental Health Week 2025

The Honourable Sarah Stoodley, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, is recognizing the week of May 5-11 as Mental Health Week.

Good mental health is essential for overall well-being. This week is a time to raise awareness about mental health and the supports and services available for individuals living with mental health challenges and/or addictions.

This year’s theme, Unmasking Mental Health, highlights the stigma and isolation often associated with mental health and addictions challenges. It emphasizes the importance of creating a supportive society free of judgement and discrimination where everyone is encouraged to get the support they need.

Individuals seeking services for mental health and addictions are reminded that help is available, including:

  • 811 – Provincial HealthLine: 24/7 telephone support for people experiencing mental health crisis or seeking connection to mental health and addictions services and supports.
  • 988 – Federal Suicide and Crisis Line: Support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Crisis Text Line:24/7 free and confidential text line that connects individuals with a trained, volunteer crisis responder. Youth can text ‘CONNECT’ to 686868 to connect. Adults can text ‘WELLNESS’ to 741741 to connect.
  • Kids Help Phone: 24/7 telephone and texting support for children and youth. Call 1-800-668-6868.
  • Hope for Wellness Helpline: 24/7 helpline offers immediate support and crisis intervention to Indigenous people across Canada. Call toll-free 1-855-242-3310, or connect to the online chat hopeforwellness.ca.
  • Mobile Crisis Response Teams: Community-based crisis intervention services located in St. John’s, Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor, Twillingate/New World Island, Corner Brook, Stephenville, Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Labrador City, available seven days a week. Call 811 HealthLine or 911 to request a mobile visit.
  • Lifewise Provincial Warm Line: Non-emergency, non-crisis telephone support and referral service provided by trained peer support workers, 7 days a week from 10 a.m. to 12 midnight. Call 1-855-753-2560.
  • First Responder Warm Line: First responders from all disciplines can reach out to the Warm Line anonymously. Call 709-237-4180.
  • Doorways Mental Health Walk-in Clinics: Rapid access to mental health and addictions counselling services, available in over 80 locations throughout the province. Call 811 to find a location near you.
  • Recovery Centre: A medical withdrawal management centre available to anyone 16 years of age and older who is intoxicated or experiencing withdrawal from alcohol or other drugs. Self-refer by calling 709-752-4980 or toll-free 1-877-752-4980.
  • Naloxone Kits: Free naloxone kits are publicly available at more than 150 sites across the province. Call 811 or visit the Department’s website for information on where to access free naloxone kits.
  • The Provincial Opioid Dependence Treatment (ODT) Line: Toll-free line to support individuals, family members and health providers seeking information and support regarding opiate use. Call toll free 1-844-752-3588 from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Provincial Mental Health and Addictions Systems Navigators: Help individuals navigate mental health and addictions services across the province. Available 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Call 709-752-3916 or toll-free 1-877-999-7589.
  • 211:24/7 free and confidential line that provides quick access to information and referral to community, social, health and government services by phone or online.
