Provincial Government Officials to Attend World Petroleum Congress
September 18, 2023
The Honourable Andrew Parsons, KC, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, will join officials from the Provincial Government in attending the 24th World Petroleum Congress in Calgary, Alberta, from September 17-21. The World Petroleum Congress brings together officials and leaders from oil and gas producing nations every three years to discuss energy matters.
The triennial World Petroleum Congress is known as the “Olympics” of the petroleum industry and covers all aspects of the industry. A wide range of key stakeholders such as governments, other industry sectors, Indigenous organizations, NGOs and international institutions will be part of the dialogue.
The congress generally attracts more than 10,000 delegates from 100 countries. This year’s theme is “Energy Transition-The Path to Net Zero”. With a focus on high-level strategic panels and experts, all aspects of the global energy sector will be discussed, including best practices and innovations in upstream, midstream and downstream operations and the natural gas industry.
This is the first time in over 20 years Canada has won a bid to host the World Petroleum Congress. Newfoundland and Labrador will host a booth in the Canada House exhibition area, which will be home to the Canadian provinces participating in the Congress and Canadian Federal Government agencies, as well as Canadian companies and organizations from across the energy spectrum. The gathering is an excellent opportunity to promote Newfoundland and Labrador as a globally preferred location for energy development.
“A who’s who of the energy industry will be at World Petroleum Congress 2023. Newfoundland and Labrador will be there to showcase our energy expertise, and to promote upcoming licencing rounds, our geoscience data, and our many green transition opportunities.”
Honourable Andrew Parsons, KC
