CHARLOTTETOWN _ Prince Edward Islanders will learn today whether Finance Minister Allen Roach can achieve last year’s forecast of a balanced budget for 2016-17.

Roach will deliver his Liberal government’s second budget this afternoon in the legislature.

During his budget last year, Roach projected a deficit of $19.9 million for 2015-16, but that estimate had ballooned to $32.9 million by last November.

New Brunswick recently announced it will raise its HST to 15 per cent in July, matching the rate in Nova Scotia.

The HST in Prince Edward Island is 14 per cent and it’s unknown if Roach will increase that in an effort to boost revenues.
