SYDNEY — Cairo is the most recent port of call for the effort to sell the port of Sydney and its proposed Novaporte container terminal to global shippers.
Albert Barbusci of Harbor Port Development Partners, which is charged with marketing the port of Sydney, and Port of Sydney Development Corp. CEO Marlene Usher recently returned from the Egyptian capital where they took part in last week’s Suez Canal Global Conference, hosted by the Suez Canal Authority.
In a phone interview, Barbusci said they went into the conference looking for a strategic alliance with the canal attract as much cargo sailing from Asia as possible through the Suez versus the Panama Canal.
“Basically we’re looking at opportunities where we can align ourselves and offer carriers something that is maybe better for them than any other offer on the table,” he said.
