Nunatsiavut Government: Changes announced to COVID-19 emergency response programs
The Nunatsiavut Government wishes to advise Beneficiaries of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement of the following changes to current COVID-19 emergency response programs:
Nunatsiavut COVID-19 Emergency Heat Subsidy Program
This program was established to assist those most vulnerable and those economically impacted by the global pandemic in covering costs of home heating. Assistance was provided to acquire wood or to cover some of the costs of electric heat or furnaces/stove oil.
This program will be suspended, effective May 1, as seasonal temperatures rise, and amid concerns over dwindling fuel supplies in some Labrador Inuit communities.
Nunatsiavut COVID-19 Harvesters Support Program
The Nunatsiavut COVID-19 Harvesters Support Program contained provisions to supply harvesters with resources (gasoline, motor oil and ammunition) to assist in acquiring country food.
This program is being suspended, effectively immediately, amid concerns over dwindling fuel supplies in some Labrador Inuit communities.
