Nunatsiavut food banks get a bump – TheChronicleHerald.ca

Food banks in Nunatsiavut and Upper Lake Melville got a boost recently — the Nunatsiavut Group of Cos. (NGC) announced is will match a recent $54,500 donation by the Nunatsiavut Government to food banks and community freezer projects in the region.

“This direct financial assistance will allow food banks and community freezers to purchase food that local communities need,” NGC president and CEO Chris Webb stated in a news release. “Food security is a major challenge in northern communities, and this is especially so with winter coming on and during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.”

Webb said the NGC is pleased to be in a position to make this donation, and since the company is owned by Nunatsiavut beneficiaries, its goal is to support the area through employment, infrastructure development, provision of services and contributions like this.
