Nova Scotians are invited to nominate their community for the 2016 Lieutenant Governor’s Community Spirit Awards, which celebrate diverse and vibrant communities across the province.

These awards highlight community achievements and share the impressive accomplishments of communities throughout Nova Scotia.

“Across Nova Scotia, people are working together to make their towns and cities happy, healthy and dynamic places to live,” said Lt.-Gov. J.J. Grant. “The Community Spirit Awards help recognize the collective essence embodied in our towns, villages and neighbourhoods.”

The Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage manages the program, which chooses up to four winners each year. A committee of community leaders selects the recipients that best fit the awards’ criteria.

“The diverse nature of our province is one of its greatest strengths,” said Communities, Culture and Heritage Minister Tony Ince. “The Community Spirit Awards celebrate community successes and help us better appreciate all communities that make up the intricate fabric of Nova Scotia.”

The deadline for nominations is Thursday, Mar. 31. Applications and information are available at communityspiritaward.ca .

Winning communities will receive an original handcrafted-in-Nova Scotia award from Lt.-Gov. Grant this summer or fall.

The 2015 winners were Mabou, Inverness Co.; Spryfield, Halifax Regional Municipality; Washabuck, Victoria Co. and River John, Pictou, Co.
