New Nunatukavut Governing Council Elected

NEW NUNATUKAVUT GOVERNING COUNCIL ELECTED
HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, LABRADOR, April 27, 2016 – The preliminary results of the NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) 2016 General Election were released yesterday by the Chief Electoral Officer. Three people were successfully elected to councillor positions, including youth councillor. Seven were elected by acclamation following the close of nominations on March 31 and the Elder position will be appointed by the new Governing Council.
“I would like to congratulate my fellow Governing Council members on their election win and I welcome them to the table,” said NCC President Todd Russell. “They will each bring a fresh perspective on the issues and opportunities facing our organization.”
The new Governing Council, listed below, will hold its inaugural meeting prior to the end of May.
“We have an exciting and busy four years ahead of us,” said President Russell. “We want to bring the new board up to speed and continue moving on important files like our Land Claim acceptance, our fisheries and additional program access for our people.”
The official election results will be posted on May 3, 2016.
“Thank you to everyone who exercised their right to vote,” said President Russell. “I also thank all candidates who put their names on the ballot and contributed to the electoral process. It shows your commitment to the people of NunatuKavut and your desire to make a difference.”
