New Brunswickers invited to share input for the 2025-26 provincial budget

FREDERICTON (GNB) – The government is inviting New Brunswickers to share their ideas and input as part of the pre-budget consultation for the 2025-26 budget.

“We know that New Brunswickers want a government that is open and transparent, which is something we are committed to,” said Finance and Treasury Board Minister René Legacy. “However, that also means having difficult discussions about our fiscal realities and the need to do things differently to improve our outcomes, despite the challenges we face.”

People are encouraged to review the pre-budget consultation discussion paper, which outlines the economic and financial situation of the province, government priorities and guiding questions for submissions. In preparing their feedback, people are asked to consider:

  • Ways to do things differently to address challenges, and innovations or ideas they have seen in action.
  • Revenue growth opportunities or cost-saving measures that would be beneficial for the government.
  • How to address challenges for the long term based on government priorities (health care, affordability and housing, education, economic development and the environment) and which commitments are most important in the short term.

“Whether it is tackling long-standing issues in health and education, affordability challenges, or emerging concerns in trade relations, we recognize that you – the public – need to be involved,” said Legacy. “This is an opportunity for us to learn from New Brunswickers, and your input will help frame discussions as we prepare for long-term sustainability, while continuing to balance the needs of New Brunswickers against our fiscal realities.”

The deadline to submit feedback and suggestions is Feb. 28. People can share their submissions by email at wwwfin@gnb.ca, by fax at 506-453-7195, or by mail to: The Hon. René Legacy, Minister of Finance and Treasury Board, P.O. Box 6000, Fredericton, N.B., E3B 5H1.
