FREDERICTON _ The New Brunswick government is contributing to an $8 million investment in mental health research for young people.
Premier Brian Gallant says the money will help fund adapted, improved and more responsive research activities.
The province will provide $500,000 of $2.5 million in total funding for a research chair on youth mental health at Universite de Moncton.
It will also give $2.5 million to support a $5.5-million research project with the Canadian Institutes for Health Research for youth and adolescent mental health.
The initiatives are part of an investment of more than $8.5 million over the next five years.
Gallant says they also align with strategies being developed by other government departments and the creation of a centre for youth with complex needs in Campbellton.
