Todd Russell, president of the NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) is calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to offer an apology for Canada’s role in the residential school system in Newfoundland and Labrador. This is on the heels of an out-of-court settlement reached between the federal government and survivors of the residential school system on May 10.
“We will support those still with us and will do what we can to walk with them on their journey of healing and reconciliation,” Russell said. “To help in this process, we ask that Prime Minister Trudeau offer an apology for Canada’s participation in the residential school system in this province.”
