Nalcor, Innu Nation to Discuss Concerns Following Attack – VOCM

Nalcor officials will meet today with members of the Innu Nation to discuss concerns raised about adherence to the Impacts Benefits Agreement for the Muskrat Falls project and racism on the job site.

Protests have taken place at the Muskrat Falls and North Spur sites in the last number of days, sparked by an assault that Innu leadership say was racially motivated. The protesters say it’s all part of a larger issue of endemic racism at the site and a failure by Nalcor and its contractors to adhere to the IBA.

Innu Nation officials have long maintained that local workers are being overlooked when it comes to work on the project. Vice President of the Lower Churchill project with Nalcor, Gilbert Bennett says they take the IBA very seriously.
