Eskasoni’s Bernard says she’s seen progress in struggle for identity
Eleanor Bernard is used to being underestimated.
But the mother of five has always been determined to pursue a life of education. The Eskasoni native was prepared for the adversity and she confronted it.
“So many professors at every university I attended said, in one way or another, that I’m not cut out to be an academic, and at the root of that was the fact that English is my second language. But you keep moving forward.”
With every stepping stone — bachelor of arts, bachelor of education and master of education degrees — she became emboldened to do more.
