Membership announced for cabinet committees
June 8, 2016
GRANDE-DIGUE (GNB) – Members of cabinet committees were announced by Premier Brian Gallant today during a cabinet retreat.
As previously announced, the committees will include all government MLAs, whether or not they are ministers. MLAs on cabinet committees will receive no extra compensation, and through the newly announced teleconferencing initiative, the move carries no added cost to the provincial government. MLAs who are not ministers will be sworn in as separate members of cabinet committees.
“MLAs are elected to represent their communities,” said Gallant. “Through these changes, the communities of all government MLAs will have a voice within the decision-making process.”
Gallant will chair the Priorities Board, which will be vice-chaired by Finance Minister Cathy Rogers.
Treasury Board President Roger Melanson will chair the Treasury Board and the Jobs Board, which will be vice-chaired by Rogers and Economic Development Minister Francine Landry respectively.
Health Minister Victor Boudreau will chair the Policy Board, which will be vice-chaired by Carleton-Victoria MLA Andrew Harvey.
Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Lisa Harris will chair the Legislative Instruments and Regulations Board, which will be vice-chaired by Restigouche West MLA Gilles LePage.
“This robust cabinet committee structure will break down silos between departments, allowing ministers and other government MLAs to better collaborate on policy,” said Gallant. “It means that the people New Brunswickers elected to govern their province will have greater control and accountability over delivering on our commitments.”
