Media Advisory: Minister Dempster Hosts Annual Meeting of Canadian Council of Forest Ministers

The Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture and Minister of Labrador Affairs, is chairing the Annual Meeting of the Canadian Council of Forest Ministers, June 16 and 17, at the Sheraton Hotel in St. John’s.

Ministers will discuss shared priorities, challenges, and emerging opportunities across the forest sector. These include forest sector competitiveness, wildfire prevention and mitigation, bilateral trade in forest products, and the deployment of firefighters.

Prior to the ministerial meeting, Minister Dempster is also hosting the Forum on Forests, which will include national Indigenous representatives, leaders of regional Indigenous organizations, experts and industry partners. Forum discussions will include building successful partnerships between Indigenous people, industry, and governments; wildfire prevention and mitigation; international market access; and how the industry is remaining relevant to young people exploring careers in the forest sector.
