LETTER: Community comes through for Maple Ridge woman’s knitting campaign – Mapleridge News

Yarn and knitting needles used by people in Aruba, letter writer explains

St. John the Divine Anglican Church in Maple Ridge, on the unceded, traditional territory of the Katzie and Kwanten First Nations, once again showed its community spirit as well as its compassion for, and commitment to, helping those less fortunate.

I travel to the small Dutch island of Aruba in the southern Caribbean a few times a year, and on each trip I bring things to help the people related to the original settlers of that Island — the Arubans.

This year I amassed a lot of yarn and wanted to complete the suitcase with knitting needles. The response from the Knitting Club and other church members, during their recent yard sale and afterwards, was amazing. I now have no less than 40 pairs and quads of knitting needles to transport.

This experience speaks to the type of people who live in our community – thoughtful, helpful and caring, with genuine loving hearts.

With their help, we will make many avid Aruban knitters, and upcoming generations of knitters, very happy.
