A potential hydro development at Gull Island would cost billions, but Natural Resources Minister Derrick Dalley assures ratepayers in this province won’t be on the hook for the project.
A working group has been established to investigate the potential of developing Gull Island with interest from Ontario.
Dalley says unlike Muskrat Falls, a Gull Island scenario would see power generated solely for export. He says it’s too early to say how much the project would cost, but he says Gull can provide an estimated 2,250 megawatts of power.
Dalley says based on the work that’s already been done, there’s a strong economic case to build the project with investment partners. He says it’s a project that will make money for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
