This past July, seven Cape Breton University students had the opportunity to fly across the world to New Zealand.

The opportunity was a part of an Indigenous Arts course created by Marcia Ostashewski, professor of Ethnomusicology, and was created with the intention of connecting local Indigenous/Mi’kmaq students with the Indigenous/Māori culture in New Zealand.

“This is part of a broader relationship-building and collaborative process between Aotearoa/New Zealand and Unama’ki/Cape Breton, specifically between Mi’kmaq and Māori people,” said Ostashewski.
