Ottawa — The Heart and Stroke Foundation acknowledges the important work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and is committed to being an active participant in the reconciliation process to promote and support the health of all Indigenous communities.

“Today’s release of the Final Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada marks a new beginning as we all learn from the past and commit to making a Canada a healthy place for all future generations,” said David Sculthorpe, CEO of the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

The report’s release will mark the end of the TRC. The Heart and Stroke Foundation would like to applaud the Commission’s gallant and tireless work over the past six years. The dedication and commitment of the commissioners have allowed Canadians to re-learn our history anew and begin preparing for the long journey of reconciliation – a responsibility that belongs to all Canadians.

We believe that the road of reconciliation is one of healing and the Heart and Stroke Foundation is committed to doing its part, by working with Indigenous communities across Canada to improve the heart health and wellbeing of all Inuit, Métis and First Nations Peoples.

We thank the TRC for its hard work and we are sincerely grateful for the bravery, strength and courage of the survivors of the Indian residential school system and their families. For without you, we would not have the opportunity to learn and heal in reconciliation, as a better Canada.

“A passion for health, making a difference, learning every day, being extraordinary together, and embracing diversity. These are our core values at the Heart and Stroke Foundation that will guide us as we proudly embrace the challenge of health reconciliation and develop our new national Indigenous Health Strategy,” said Sculthorpe.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation’s mission is to prevent disease, save lives and promote recovery. A volunteer-based health charity, we strive to tangibly improve the health of every Canadian family, every day. Healthy lives free of heart disease and stroke. Together we will make it happen. heartandstroke.ca
