The Honourable Dr. Scott Reid, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has announced the following relative to Environmental Assessment – Part 10 – of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Bloomfield Resource Road Multi-Use Trail                                        (Reg. 2372)
Proponent: Discovery Trail Snowmobile Association Inc.

The proponent is proposing to develop a nine-kilometre multi-use trail near Bloomfield, NL, utilizing an existing forest access road off Bloomfield Resource Road. Proposed project work includes vegetation clearing, grading and culvert installation. The trail is intended to accommodate ATVs, snowmobiles and hikers. A description of the project can be found on the Department of Environment and Climate Change website at: www.gov.nl.ca/ecc/env-assessment/projects-list/.

The undertaking was registered on September 19, 2025. The deadline for public comment is October 24, 2025, and the minister’s decision is due by November 3, 2025.

PLANS ACCEPTED:
Portugal Cove South to Cape Race Multi-use Trail                          (Reg. 2288)
Proponent: Town of Portugal Cove South

On September 18, 2025, the minister advised the proponent that the Waste Management Plan and Environmental Protection Plan for the project were accepted. These plans were required as conditions of release from environmental assessment and are available on the Department of Environment and Climate Change website at: www.gov.nl.ca/ecc/projects/project-2288/. The minister also advised that the condition to submit GPS coordinates for the trail, along with plans for its design and construction, has been met.
