DiverseCity Multicultural Festival takes to the street this Sunday in Charlottetown

The PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada (PEI ANC) presents the 9th annual DiverseCity Multicultural Street festival in Charlottetown, this Sunday, June 28th from 2:00pm to 10:00pm. The event is sponsored by the City of Charlottetown.

Victoria Row, Richmond Street, The Confederation Centre of the Arts Plaza and Amphitheatre will be filled with the sights and sounds of diversity. The festival will feature continuous performances on the main stage representing many of the cultures who make Prince Edward Island their home—from First Nations to more recent newcomers.

These will include: Mi’kmaq • Celtic • Chinese • Colombian • Cuban • Dutch • Filipino • German • East Indian • Iranian • Irish • Japanese • Korean • Lebanese • Moroccan • Nepalese • Nicaraguan • Peruvian • Scottish • Sri Lankan • Taiwanese and Ukrainian.

Admission to DiverseCity is free and everyone is welcome. There are continuous stage performances on the main stage from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and cultural displays, games, activities and demonstration and international food from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

CARE Canada is setting up an Emergency Relief Shelter on site. It will give people an opportunity to see what people in emergency situations use for shelter. The display includes all the items that a person is given upon arrival in a refugee camp.

The day wraps up with a Caribbean street dance featuring ECMA nominated band, The Count and the Cuban Cocktail!

In case of inclement weather, DiverseCity will be held inside the Confederation Centre of Arts and the Confederation Court Mall.
