FREDERICTON (GNB) – The Office of the Chief Coroner has announced that an inquest into the death of Skyler Brent Sappier-Soloman has been scheduled for May 16-19 at the Saint John Law Courts, 10 Peel Plaza.

Sappier-Soloman died at the Saint John Regional Hospital in the early morning hours of Jan. 31, 2022. The 28-year-old was an inmate at the Saint John Regional Correctional Centre and had been transported and admitted to the hospital on Jan. 29.

The presiding coroner and a jury will publicly hear evidence from witnesses to determine the facts surrounding Sappier-Soloman’s death. The jury will have an opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances.

An inquest is a formal proceeding that allows for the public presentation of all evidence relating to a death. The New Brunswick Coroner Service is an independent fact-finding agency that does not make any finding of legal responsibility.
