The chief of the We’koqma’q First Nation says he hopes construction on their new community centre and fire hall will start in late spring.
Rod Googoo says there have been fewer community events since the centre burned to ground in late December.
He says there are no other spaces to host large gatherings.
Googoo tells The Hawk band officials are waiting for designs to be finalized at this point.
“Right now we’ve got architects working on the plans and design work for us,” he says. “Once the design work is all done and approved by council, I guess we’ll be going in and breaking ground.”
