CBU Prof Recognized for Leadership and Research
This year has proven to be a big one for Dr. Kathy Snow, who was recently awarded the 2016 Canadian Association for University Continuing Education (CAUCE) Graduate Research Award for her doctoral dissertation. This is the second award Kathy has won in the past month. She also received the CBU Instructional Leadership Award in May.
Kathy is a Professor in CBU’s Education Department, where she teaches science methodology in the BEd program, as well as digital citizenship, instructional design and online learning in the MED Information Technology and MED SCI programs. Her current research interests include decolonizing and critical pedagogy; blended-learning; educational technology; instructional design; and networked learning.
On June 2, 2016, Kathy was awarded the Graduate Research Award for her postdoctoral thesis while attending the CAUCE-CNIE Conference in Waterloo, Ontario. The Graduate Research Award recognizes a graduate thesis or dissertation that addresses issues within continuing and adult education. Kathy’s research is titled Examining Indigenous Students’ Persistence in a Hybrid Pre-Nursing Transitions Environment, and intends to highlight the lives of Indigenous students and the realities they face upon entering postsecondary education.
Kathy says she is greatly appreciates the award, but recognition should be shared, stating, “The dissertation shares the voices of four Indigenous women who are in a nursing-transition program. I was so pleased their voices were heard-I see it as our award. It’s their success and stories, I just put it on paper”.
Prior to her Graduate Research Award, Kathy was recognized for the CBU Instructional Leadership Award on May 13, 2016, at the President’s Dinner. The CBU Instructional Leadership Award recognizes substantial contributions to the development of the teaching and learning community at CBU, including work that happens outside the classroom.
CBU’s Dr. Patrick Howard nominated Kathy for the Instructional Leadership Award, and says, “Kathy’s passion for both science education and technology teaching and learning is evident in her dedication, and work ethic. Her teaching, and the learning experience of CBU students, has been enriched by her leadership and energy”.
