Cape Breton University to offer remediation course – CBC

University to share the knowledge of those who worked on Sydney tar ponds and other polluted sites
Cape Breton University is drawing on the legacy of steelmaking and coal mining on the island to develop a new course on site remediation.
In October, it will offer a professional training course through the Verschuren Centre for Sustainability in Energy and the Environment.
Martin Mkandawire, the industrial research chair in minewater management for the centre and an associate professor of chemistry, says the course will rely on local experts who were involved in the cleanup of sites such as the Sydney tar ponds and coke ovens.
