HALIFAX – A military veteran is taking his fight for long-term disability benefits to a Halifax court today.
Stephane Hebert is part of a proposed class action suit being heard in Federal Court.
He says he was given the wrong information about benefits from the federal insurer and then was told he missed a deadline to apply.
Dan Wallace is representing the veterans and says so far about a dozen people have come forward.
He will argue today that the suit should be certified as a class action.
Wallace says the insurer led his client and others to believe they would not receive any payments based on calculations that were done using a formula that takes salary and pensions into account.
But he argues that a previous court ruling in another matter involving veterans’ benefits found the formula was flawed and should be overturned.
