HALIFAX – Over his 18 years on Parliament Hill, former M-P Peter Stoffer collected more than nine-thousand hats _ many of them tacked to the walls of his colourful Ottawa office.
So when the Nova Scotia politician was defeated in the last federal election, he began cleaning out his office and got rid of 25-hundred hats.
Now, the remaining 65-hundred hats will be sold off tomorrow for prices ranging from one to 10 dollars.
Stoffer says he brought only three hats to Ottawa when he was first elected and the collection grew from there.
The hats include everything from sports caps, commemorative hats to military caps.
Stoffer expects it’ll take him about six hours to set up the hats at the Kinsmen Community Centre in Lower Sackville before tomorrow’s charity sale.
The sale will benefit the Kinsmen, Kinettes, H-M-C-S Sackville Trust and a group serving veterans and the physically challenged.
