HALIFAX – The fight over assistance to Nova Scotia’s film industry continues a year after the government cut its film tax credit.

The province’s film and television sector broadsided the government yesterday with a study it says proves the industry’s economic value.

The Screen Nova Scotia commissioned study estimates 180 million dollars was contributed to the province’s G-D-P in 2014 when the government provided 24 million dollars through its former film tax credit.

But the argument wasn’t making headway with Premier Stephen McNeil who says a new 10 million dollar fund is fair and what the province can afford.

McNeil says although he hadn’t read the study, there is nothing in it that would make him change his mind.

Progressive Conservative Leader Jamie Baillie says it’s “disgraceful” that McNeil is being stubborn.

Baillie suggests the premier is playing politics, adding that McNeil was quick to change his stance earlier this year when seniors protested proposed changes to Pharmacare.
