HALIFAX – A decision by the Nova Scotia government to pull out as developer of a proposed 100 million dollar project at a former school property in Halifax is being panned by the N-D-P.

Party Leader Gary Burrill says the governing Liberals have broken a promise to develop affordable housing at the Bloomfield Centre property.

The project was awarded by the city to Housing Nova Scotia in late 2012 when the New Democrats were in power.

Burrill says the decision is a blow to 15-hundred people currently on waiting lists in the Halifax area.

Premier Stephen McNeil says the government will share design and planning information with the city and any future developer in order to ensure affordable housing remains a part of the project.

McNeil says the government’s decision was in the best interest of taxpayers, although he concedes it took too long to make.

Progressive Conservative Leader Jamie Baillie says if the project was a priority for the Liberals it would have been addressed by now.
