FREDERICTON – Two commissionaires have been shifted out of their assignments in Moncton, New Brunswick, after complaints that a government body is failing to provide bilingual service.
There’s also a review of social media accounts underway in the city of Fredericton over the failure to provide equal service in both languages.
The action came after probes by Katherine d’Entremont, the commissioner of official languages in the province.
In the Moncton case, the commissioner says she is investigating a complaint concerning the lack of security services in French at the Moncton Community Health Centre.
The Vitalite Health Network issued a statement saying it agrees there was an issue, and that the commissionaire service is making changes.
D’Entremont also says she is investigating two complaints concerning English-only communication by Fredericton’s Water and Sewer division, and by the city’s Fire Department.
