PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – Two senior federal ministers are in Prince George today, meeting with 20 families of northern B-C’s missing and murdered women.
The meetings are part of gatherings planned across the country as the federal government hears opinions about the format and content of a promised national inquiry into missing and murdered indigenous women.
Mary Teegee with Prince George-based Carrier Sekani Family Services attended a similar event Wednesday in Vancouver.
She says the face-to-face meetings with Indigenous Affairs Minister Carolyn Bennett and Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould give a voice to those who have been silenced.
Teegee hopes the eventual federal inquiry will lead to legislation that will end violence toward aboriginal women and girls.
The next meeting takes place in Halifax on January 20. (CKPG)
