ST. PETERS HARBOUR, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, Canada – Premiers from Atlantic Canada are meeting with several federal politicians in Prince Edward Island today.
Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay is hosting the four premiers and several cabinet ministers in a barn on his property in St. Peters Bay.
The federal ministers of immigration, fisheries and public services will be there, along with Island Premier Wade MacLauchlan and his counterparts from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador.
New Brunswick Premier Brian Gallant says they’ll be focusing on strengthening the regional economy and boosting the population.
He say several issues will be on the table, including immigration and a skilled labour market, climate change, trade and infrastructure.
This is the second time the Atlantic premiers have met with federal cabinet ministers, with the first session taking place in Fredericton in February.
