Welder
Welders will be required to select and set up welding equipment, execute the planned welds, and examine welds to ensure that they meet standards and/or specifications. A.F. Theriault & Son Ltd. Works with a variety of materials but most common are steel and aluminum. Welding practices vary from tack welding, fillet welding to full penetration.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Read drawings or specifications or use their knowledge of base metals to analyze parts to be joined
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method to be used based on requirements
- Set up components (cutting, fitting, grinding, etc.) for welding based on requirements
- Weld components using manual and/or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal and overhead)
- Complete, CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) certifications when required
- Operate related equipment and tools which include but are not limited to forklifts, hoists, slings, grinders (portable & bench), cutting torches, hand tools, drills and punches
- Work in multiple environments from an indoor facility, confined spaces within vessels, outside spaces with exposure to all elements
- Keep the shop/work site as a safe and clean environment to work in. Opening the doors and starting the ventilation fans may be required depending on the work being completed in the shop and/or space
- Willing to go apprenticeship training if applicable
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts
- Follow A.F. Theriault & Son Ltd. Policies and procedures and
- Carry out other tasks either assigned by Senior Management, Foremen and/or C.W.B. – A.F.T. Welding Supervisor
Requirements
- Previous shipyard/marine experience is preferred but not necessary
- Proven experience as a welder required
- Diploma/Certificate from accredited post-secondary institution is considered an asset
- Be able to read/understand blueprints and/or drawings
- Applicants must be safety conscious
- Willing to work overtime hours as required
- Be able to communicate in either English or French
- Possess the ability to work well both with a team or unsupervised and
- Applicant must provide Steel Toe boots, all other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for this position is provided
- Ability to work 8-5 Monday to Friday for a total of 42.5 hours per week and
- High School English OR Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLBs) 5
