Social Worker – Child Protection and Prevention
Position Summary
Under the direction and supervision of the Community & Family Services Director, the Social Worker will provide a range of essential services to community members, including intake and investigation, child and adult protection, counselling, family support, crisis intervention, and case management. The Social Worker will also participate in after-hours emergency services on a rotational basis, as well as contribute to program planning, implementation, and other social work–related duties as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide intake and investigation services for child and adult protection cases.
- Deliver individual and family counselling, crisis intervention, and family support services.
- Manage client caseloads with professionalism, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity.
- Participate in after-hours on-call rotation to respond to emergencies.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate preventive programs that support family and community wellness.
- Work collaboratively with community partners and agencies to promote holistic and culturally appropriate services.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited university.
- Professional Membership: Must be a member in good standing with the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers (NBASW).
- Confidentiality: Must maintain strict confidentiality both on and off the job.
- Cultural Competency: Ability to adapt social work practices to the culture, traditions, and values of the community to ensure culturally appropriate service delivery.
- Professionalism: Responsible, reliable, and a team-oriented professional with strong communication skills.
- Crisis Management: Strong analytical and decision-making skills, particularly in crisis situations.
- Availability: Willingness to work flexible hours, including after-hours on-call shifts as part of a rotational schedule.
- Experience: Preference will be given to candidates with experience in Child Protection and preventive program development and delivery.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with the NB Families Case Management System is an asset.
- Community Knowledge: Understanding of First Nations communities in New Brunswick and the unique challenges they face is an asset.
- Cultural Background: Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated experience working with Indigenous peoples and communities and/or those of Indigenous descent.
