Position Summary:

Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation is seeking a motivated and skilled Lands Coordinator to join our team. The Lands Coordinator will play a key role in managing, protecting, and enhancing the lands and resources of our Nation. This position involves working closely with community members, government agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure the sustainable use and development of our lands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement land use plans, policies, and programs in alignment with community goals and cultural values.
  • Coordinate land management activities, including land leasing, environmental assessments, and land development projects.
  • Serve as a liaison between the community, government agencies, and other stakeholders on land-related matters.
  • Conduct community consultations and meetings to gather input and provide updates on land management activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to land transactions, agreements, and other relevant information.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and agreements.
  • Provide advice and support to community members on land-related issues and inquiries.
  • Promote sustainable land use practices and environmental stewardship within the community.


  • Post-secondary education in land management, environmental studies, natural resources, or a related field.
  • Experience in land management, environmental planning, or a related field, preferably within a First Nations context.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous land rights, land management practices, and relevant legislation.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using relevant software and technology for land management and record-keeping.
  • A commitment to the values and priorities of the Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Additional Assets:

  • Knowledge of Mi’kmaw culture, language, and traditions.
  • Experience in community development and capacity building.
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
