Job Summary:

We are seeking an Indigenous and Community Engagement Strategist to join our Creative Fire team. This senior role is responsible for developing and implementing communications and engagement strategies as well as comprehensive supporting plans to achieve client-specific organizational goals. This work includes a strong focus on building bridges of trust and understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, businesses, people and organizations. The Indigenous and Community Engagement Strategist should have an extensive background engaging with Indigenous businesses, communities and organizations, and have an ability to understand and deliver on the needs of a diverse range of clients. Our ideal candidate is a thoughtful, strategic thinker, with the ability to understand different perspectives and needs, and a drive to deliver real results for clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with Indigenous and non-Indigenous clients from a variety of sectors to assess needs and understand goals.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with clients, and act as a trusted advisor.
  • Use market research and an understanding of engagement practices to develop and translate goals into effective communications and engagement strategies, programs and initiatives.
  • Work in partnership with Creative Fire’s research division to conduct public opinion and attitude surveys to support development and execution of strategic plans.
  • Define performance indicators and monitor success.
  • Utilize earned, paid, digital media and PR tactics to achieve strategic communications goals.
  • Scope and estimate client projects, support strategy pitches and proposal development.
  • Take a lead role in researching, writing and editing of a wide range of compelling communications materials and content, working across all platforms and channels.
  • Stay current on latest trends and best practices, provide insight and guidance to leadership, other teams and colleagues on topics related to engagement and strategic communications.
  • Find opportunities for innovation and partnerships.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant post-secondary education in community engagement, communications, Indigenous studies, public policy, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in developing and implementing communications and engagement strategies.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience liaising and building meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities, businesses and organizations.
  • Passionate about working with and contributing to the prosperity of Indigenous communities, businesses and organizations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in Indigenous issues in Canada, including Indigenous governance, community development, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action.
  • Experience in a consulting practice and/or the energy and resource/mining sectors considered an asset.
  • Driven to understand client needs and develop solutions that exceed expectations.
  • Extensive writing and editing experience, developing and producing content and collateral for diverse mediums and channels.
  • Expressive and persuasive in both spoken and written formats for individual and group situations.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Highly developed attention to detail.
  • Forward thinking and in touch with current engagement and communications trends.
  • Self-identifying as Indigenous and/or having first-hand knowledge or experience living in and/or working with an Indigenous community will be considered an asset.
