This course provides chronological and thematic studies of the origins and story of the United Church of Canada, including theological, social, ecclesiological and missional issues. Through the use of readings (original source documents and analysis), research papers, discussions and in-class presentations students will encounter aspects of the story of the United Church as both heir and unique expression of the entire Christian tradition.
About the Instructor: The Rev. Dr. Ross Bartlett, Adjunct Professor at AST, received his B.A. (Hons.) at Queen’s University); his M.Div. at University of St. Andrew’s/Queen’s Theological College; his M.A. at Queen’s University; his Th.D. at Toronto School of Theology/Victoria University; and his D.Min. at Princeton Theological Seminary. Ross believes that the process of learning continues everywhere for those who are open to it. Formal education opportunities represent the opportunity to gain the insights and skills we apply elsewhere. His greatest joy is to see the light of newfound awareness shine in another’s eyes. That is holy ground.
