On December 8th, join us to hear stories and songs to celebrate the Nunatsiavut traditions of Christmas in the Big Land!
This concert will feature special performances by some incredible Inuit performers, such as award winning Inuk Soprano Deantha Edmunds, Mason Dicker, Annabelle Edmunds-Ramsay, Minnie Merkuratsuk, and a special performance from our Inuit Choir! Accompanied by Tom Gordon.
Audiences will enjoy stories and songs to celebrate the season, with traditions like beeswax candles in apples, and milk lunch cookies.
Please note that in an effort to allign the content to the traditional events in Labrador, we will not be having an outdoor tree-lighting as part of this event this year. We thank you in advance for understanding, and for joining us for a full beautiful concert, indoors in the warm!
This event is made possible by the support of the Government of Canada and ArtsNL.
Doors Open at 5:30pm
Community Spirit: Donations of non-perishable food items and toiletries are accepted at the door. Donations go directly to tenants of First Light’s Indigenous-priority affordable housing units.
Parking: We are located in the heart of Downtown St. John’s at 81 Cochrane Street, and there is no dedicated parking lot. For blue-zone pass holders, there is one accessible parking space on the ramp that leads up to the front doors.
Accessibility: Although we have made progress towards full accessibility with our recent upgrade to the ramp leading to the main doors, there are some features of our building that may be challenging to navigate for some audience members. The floor seating is all one level with a gentle downward slope leading to the front of the space, and there is one row with extra leg room that we designate as “accessible seating” because it has more room for placement of mobility aids. There is a ramp to the washroom area as well, and all doors are button-operated. Please note that the balcony seating area is only accessible via staircase. If you have any other questions or concerns about accessibility, or would like to request specific accommodations, please contact lauren@firstlightnl.ca and we’ll do what we can.
For this event, Triangular Communications will be providing ASL interpretation for hard of hearing patrons.
